Nori seaweed, also known as Yahi-Nori, is an edible seaweed originally cultivated in Japan. It is a type of red algae that becomes black or green after a specific drying process.
It is characterized by an exceptional content of high-quality proteins and micronutrients. Among these micronutrients, it is rich in iodine, sodium, iron, potassium, and beta-carotene. In terms of vitamins, nori seaweed is advantageous as it contains a very high amount of vitamins B9, C, A, and B3.
How to make an onigiri?
To wrap your onigiri, it's very simple:
- Place the sheet of nori seaweed between the sheets of the wrapper.
- Place the onigiri directly on the wrapper. This way, it doesn't touch the nori sheet, which keeps it crispy and fresh before eating.
- Fold the wrapper from the bottom as indicated to cover the onigiri. To close it all, there are even small stickers provided in the package.
- Now you have a typical onigiri like the ones you can find in stores in Japan, with an easy 3-step opening: pull the red tab, then the parts labeled "2" and "3" on the sides!
